There is no need to attend a modeling boot camp, school or local Hotel event to start your career as a Model. If it helps your confidence then I have no problem with it, but in most cases it only gives broken promises. If you live in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan or Kentucky why would an agency out of New York or Los Angles want your child or teen for an ad or commercial? They have hundreds of talent agents and thousands of models faces to select from. Ask yourself, why would A talent or modeling agency fly your baby to do a commercial? Moreover, invite your your teen model or actor to do a photo shoot for a Glamour magazine. My advice is not to waste your money on modeling conventions. Its just not that easy. The bottom line is, when it comes to starting a career as a model, remember the saying “there is always more to it than that.”

First I would make an appointment with a reputable talent agency, take a friend or family member with you. Be sure to look at the talent or modeling agencies portfolio and roster of models.

Make sure your modeling photographer is well connected in the talent industry.

The photographer should have contacts in the modeling and acting industry. Sometimes modeling photographers hire models and actors for local ads or commercial photography. Word of mouth is the best way to find out about a talent agency or modeling photographer. Research the talent agencies background and the photographers work before signing an acting agreement or contract to model.

Its always a good idea to find out if the photographer that specializes in fashion and modeling photography has a makeup artist available for the shoot, and that the price include at least 3 to 5 looks that are done in a studio sitting and shots taken out on (outside) location. Make sure there are a minimum of 25 to 50 high resolution photos placed on a CD for yourself and for a potential modeling agency to review. Modeling agencies unusually have something they call an open call. That is a certain day of the month or week were Agencies set a time to see new potential models. Roni Griffith worked with one very reputable Modeling agency that established open calls one day a month for children, one day for models, one day for actors and actresses. The agency had you fill out a form online then take at least 3 to 5 pictures with you to the open call. You would leave your photos with them. The photos were property of the agency, and then you would only receive a call after a week if you had been selected to be represented.

Rejection is not a reason to quit, You may not get accepted the first time but don’t give up, I have photographed many people of all ages and backgrounds that got accepted the next time around and signed with another agency that was interested. Better to be a big fish in a small sea, than a small fish in a big sea.
